Holiday Cookies- - A Family Recipe

The holidays are here, time to fill our homes with festive decor and our tummies with delicious treats. This holiday cookie recipe is a family favourite passed down from my mother in law. The cookies are a huge hit with my children and the pop of red from the cherries make for the perfect holiday treat. If you are looking for an easy and impressive recipe for a cookie exchange or to bring to dinner parties, this one is sure to impress. I enjoy having them with my morning coffee as they make the perfect bite size dippers!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup Soft Butter

  • 1 Egg

  • 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar

  • 1 Cup Flour

  • Pinch of Salt

  • 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon

  • 1/8 Teaspoon All Spice

  • 1/4 Cup Raisins

  • 1/4 Cup Glazed Cherries

  • 1/4 Cup Chopped Nuts (Walnuts)

  • 1 Tablespoon Boiling Water

  • 1/4 Teaspoon Baking Powder

Instructions:

1) Preheat oven to 350F.

2) Fold brown sugar into butter and then add the egg.

3) Mix flour, salt, cinnamon, and allspice in a separate bowl.

4) Add the dry ingredients into the bowl with the butter and mix together.

5) Add in raisins, cherries, and nuts. (Can also include dried cranberries or dates!)

6) In a separate bowl mix the boiling water and baking powder together and add it into the mixture.

7) Make into small cookies and place on a slightly greased baking tin.

8) Bake for 10 minutes.

Let cookies fully cool before serving.
