From Outdated to Outstanding - A Mom’s Chic Closet Makeover

Chic Closet Makeover

Closets are often neglected spaces in our homes, serving as catch-alls for clutter and rarely receiving the attention they deserve. My closet was long overdue for a makeover as it was built in the 1970s and in dire need of a modern update. Today I am sharing the journey of how I transformed this outdated, impractical, and dull closet to a vibrant and organized oasis.

The original closet had seen better days. Dark and cramped, it lacked both functionality and style. The shelves were way too high I could not reach and the rods were flimsy. The overall aesthetic was far from inspiring. The first step in this transformation was to strip it all away, clearing out the remnants of the past and creating a blank canvas for my vision.

As I dove into the process of cleaning out the closet, I realized that it was the perfect opportunity to not only revamp the space but also declutter my wardrobe. However, parting ways with my clothing wasn't an easy task. Each item held memories, and there was a tinge of separation anxiety that accompanied the process. Sorting through my collection, I found myself reminiscing about the occasions and experiences associated with each piece. It took me a while to gather the courage to let go of garments that I hadn't worn in years, knowing that it was time to bid farewell. But in the end, I reminded myself that by donating these items, I was making space for new beginnings and giving others the opportunity to cherish and create their own memories with these beloved pieces.

Once the closet was stripped to its bones, I decided to infuse it with a touch of femininity. I incorporated stunning floral butterfly wallpaper from Rocky Mountain Decals called Butterfly Song Wallpaper. I was initially drawn to this whimsical design and ordering online made it super easy. The floral patterns and delicate butterflies added a pop of colour and charm that instantly transformed the space. The peel-and-stick wallpaper proved to be a game-changer, providing an easy and hassle-free installation process, so my husband says! While I was busy sorting the clothing he jumped right into construction and assembly.

Please note, this wallpaper was gifted to me from Rocky Mountain Decals, however the review and thoughts are of my honest opinion. The wallpaper truly made my vision come to life and I am happy to share to positive impact it made on my closet dreams.

With the new wallpaper adorning the walls, it was time to install the cabinetry. I wanted to make sure there was lots of hanger space but also some drawers as well. I ended up having extra butterfly wallpaper left over so I decided to add a beautiful finishing touch, drawer liners! I now can confidently say that no closet makeover would be complete without paying attention to the little details. Drawer liners add a touch of elegance to my garments and and protect my shelves from any potential damage.

I decided to add finishing touches to the closet space to elevate it just a little more. The gold drawer knobs instantly brought a touch of glamour to the space and the white velvet hangers were a total showstopper. They not only keep my clothes organized and take up little space, but they also give my closet a seriously Instagrammable aesthetic. Now, let's talk denim! I jazzed up my jeans with rose gold S-hooks allowing for more space and so I can easily spot which pair I need for the day. The second star of the show, second to the gorgeous wallpaper of course, was the jaw-dropping vanity makeup table I found, complete with a dazzling mirror that lights up with not one, not two, but three radiant light options! It's like having my very own backstage glam station. With these fabulous additions, my closet has become the ultimate hotspot for fashion-forward fun, where every outfit choice and beauty routine feels like a red-carpet moment.

I was surprised to discover how my clothing now stood out beautifully against the vibrant wallpaper backdrop. The visual impact was remarkable, as the colors and patterns seemed to come alive against the contrasting floral motifs. The once drab and uninspiring closet had become a showcase for my fashion choices. Now I wanted to lay out the framework so you can make over a beautiful closet of your own. I promise, following these steps will help you declutter the space and have that Pinterest worthy closet of your dreams.
